OKX has a new legal eagle. Linda Lacewell is stepping in as Chief Legal Officer, succeeding Mauricio Beugelmans, who recently exited stage left.
Lacewell’s move to CLO comes after serving on OKX’s board since last year. Her resume boasts a stint as Superintendent of the New York Department of Financial Services, bringing regulatory gravitas to the crypto exchange.
OKX stated that her leadership is crucial as they broaden their reach into Europe and the U.A.E.
News of Lacewell’s appointment follows reports of Beugelmans’ departure, which a source linked to the substantial penalties OKX faced from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). The DOJ previously stated OKX had processed over $5 billion in transactions flagged as suspicious or tied to criminal activity.
Beugelmans, in an email to CoinDesk, said he resigned to pursue another opportunity within the crypto sector.
