Morgan Stanley's Mike Wilson identifies key sectors for investment amid pullback

The chief investment officer at Morgan Stanley believes new investment opportunities are emerging amid the S&P 500 pullback.

In Morgan Stanley’s Thoughts on the Market podcast, Mike Wilson indicated that the stock market’s recent sector rotation is likely to continue and new categories may start to outperform. He stated, “Take note of these corrections in momentum, because they often bring change in leadership, and that’s the real opportunity.” Wilson noted that there have already been leadership rotations this year, moving from precious and base metals to rare earths, energy, and now semiconductors.

Wilson highlighted three sectors that are showing potential for future rallies: consumer discretionary goods, transports, and regional banks. These sectors have all risen more than 10% over the past month, contrasting with a modest decline in the S&P 500. Despite their performance, sentiment towards these areas remains muted. Wilson remarked, “That’s exactly the kind of setup I like: improving fundamentals, better relative price action and investors still skeptical.”
